My Kitchen Problem...and a GIVEAWAY!

Have I ever shown you pictures of my kitchen? Probably not.

It's the one room in our house that needs a little TLC. Visible studs, ceiling beams, and plywood is my current decor. The kitchen is the project that tops my husband's home improvement list.

After looking at these pictures, can you tell what is #1 on my new and improved kitchen wishlist?



Not a dishwasher (although that would be lovely!), but better lighting!!

Now, I'll show you my inspiration kitchen:


Isn't it purty?! Not only do I love the bigger-than-I-currently-have window for natural light on even the gloomiest days, I LOVE the unobtrusive recessed lighting. We've got recessed lighting in several other areas of our home and it is so very, very nice.

    Does clutter count as a problem area? :) Okay, if I need to be more specific, I'd say that I'd like to have a new stove. This one works fine, and I'm not complaining, but I wish I had one of those high-power burners to boil water quickly.

    Oh right now our garbage disposal was acting up. It is ok but for how long and then I think that the next item that is needing repair is the floor and the border on the wall needs to come down.

    My kitchen is very dark and needs under-cabinet lighting. If I stand at the counter to work, I have to move my head to the side so I don't shadow the whole work surface.

    I have the worst kitchen ever. I have only 6 cupboards and zero counter space. Not only that but my kitchen pipes actually run OUTSIDE the house through a crawl space which causes them to freeze unless I plug in the pipe wrap heaters in the winter. The mini dishwasher also sits right above that same crawlspace and if I don't leave the door open, any water in the bottom of the dishwasher freezes so I can't run the dishwasher unless I run it through two dry cycles first to unfreeze the standing water. Nightmare city :(

    My dream kitchen appliance would be a double door stainless steel refrigerator with a water and ice dispenser on the outside and that has the freezer compartment/drawer on the bottom. Oh yes I hear that there are now "smart" refrigerators that tell you when you're out of things. That would be awesome!

    The main issue in my kitchen is organization in the kitchen cabinets. So, I'd get some drawer organizers, shelf extensions or whatever... and for a little comfort I would love a long area rug to run down the middle.
