If you enjoy any type of historical books, you would find thumbing through an old Sears and Roebuck catalog absolutely FASCINATING!
As a little girl, I remember loving to sit at the Wendy's tables, which were covered in snapshots of an old catalog.
Until the catalog is purchased off of my Amazon wishlist, I found a copy at my local library! The book has been giggled and awed and gaped at for the last week or so.
If you have children, the catalog would be a perfect history show-and-tell!
In 1897, you could purchase a gas stove, with an included oven, for only $14!
If gas was too modern for you, a basic coal or wood cookstove would set you back about $14.10.
Sears, Roebuck & Co. offered items for all aspects of life, from medicinals (like reliable worm cakes, obesity powders, and liver pills)
to wagon and buggy supplies
to clothes (the overweight were not called "plus" sized...but "fleshy" -- the gall!)
to furniture (a 6-piece parlor suit was $11.35)
to chocolate (Fancy Chocolate Creams were .14 per pound...sign me up for 100 lbs! That should last until next week...and, put me down as "fleshy" then....) :-)
to boxing gloves!
The Sears Roebuck & Co. catalog will very likely find a home alongside
I'm thinking of scanning a few of the gun and ammo pages to create a framed collage for my husband's "hunting" room... I think that'd be kinda cool!
Find yourself a copy to browse through! You can't help but be fascinated, too!!
